Description

Angels from the Heart Day
was one of several events organized in 2000 to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the founding of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in 1875 on the near Southside of downtown Indianapolis. Recognizing that God had richly blessed the members of our congregation, we wanted to be a blessing to others, to have a "miracle day" when we might be vessels of God's grace and bounty to others. It was a unique blend of Franciscan spirituality, Columbianism and ecumenical cooperation.

Some kind of home repair was made to 16 homes owned by persons who were disabled, poor, or elderly.  We extend an invitation to you and your church or organization to be a part of this special day.

Our Task is ...
To bring together people representing Sacred Heart, other Catholic churches, congregations of other Christian Churches, Knights of Columbus councils, schools, local merchants, and community groups to spend a day devoted to making home repairs for those who, because of infirmity, low income or age, are unable to do it themselves.

Volunteers will be assigned to various neighborhood improvement jobs: painting, sweeping, raking, planting, repairing, etc. Children with adult supervision are welcome. Sacred Heart is located at 1530 Union Street (two stop lights south of Morris St. and one block east)

Angels from the Heart is a special day of ora et labora (prayer and work) when Catholics, other Christians, merchants and others come together in fellowship to manifest the love of God to the poor, disabled and elderly residents of the Historic Sacred Heart neighborhood.

We invite you to be a part of this wonderful event.
